![]() Ideally, study a Technology, Engineering, or Math major if you are capable.The exception being if you have a very strong passion for a certain career path and the academic strength and discipline to distinguish yourself in that path. I used to say “pick a job, not a major” but I actually prefer to advise picking between a shortlist of majors with good stats and then back engineering that to a job. Have an idea what job you want to get with your major.Coming in with the right major/career path in mind will make the time off worthwhile. It’s completely ok to put off college for a few years after high school to soul search.DO NOT come to college if you have no specific answer to the question: “what’s your goal in coming to college?” And the answer can’t be “I’m just figuring it”… go figure yourself out somewhere you aren’t going into massive debt and come to college when you do (if that’s the right path). Ask if that dream job pays well enough to reach your long-term lifestyle goal. Ask yourself what sort of job/life you want and if college can realistically get you that. Delete your video games during the semester.I built my whole social life in college around being Christian and it had profound social ramifications on me when I started to question my faith… my college experience would’ve been so much more congruent with who I am if I had come to these conclusions my Freshman year rather than my Senior year. Not saying become a liberal atheist, I’m saying challenge your beliefs to see if you actually believe them. I left a Liberal-leaning person questioning his religion, with more classy interests and a respect for women. I came into college a Conservative Christian sexist/basically incel who loved conspiracy theories and racist jokes. ![]()
